This series explores the concept of the artificial becoming preferential over the natural and what gets altered in translation. This piece was made using cmyk process silkscreens onto wood. The image is a seamless bark pattern found via a google search. The bark pattern covers and camouflages the actual wood grain. This represents a controlled experience overwriting a natural one. Through the printing process the colors are more saturated than what the eye would see looking at actual bark and explores the idea of a hyperreal experience being generated from trying to mimic something real with artifice. The print produces a trompe l’oeil effect and makes the viewer question what they are seeing if they are standing far enough away which connects thematically to the piece. There is also an aspect of camouflage that speaks to the posturing that people maintain in the online versions of themselves This connects to the images origins as the it was found on the internet.
